Hodonínsko
The Hodonín region, the region of wine, sun and living folk traditions, can offer many natural beauties and remarkable monuments to Czech and foreign visitors. The river Morava crosses its centre and divides the Hodonín region into two parts. Directly in the valley of Morava, there is the centre of the whole area - town Hodonín and village Podluží. In addition to wine and folklore in Podluží, you can also find Mikulčice, one of major centres of Great Moravian Empire, here. The western hilly part of the Hodonín region is occupied by the Kyjov area, a strong wine-growing region that is famous for Kyjov folk costume, festival Slovácký rok (Year in Slovácko) and also beauties of the chateau in Milotice or traditions of Žarošice wakes. The Strážnice area stretches from the meanders of river Morava up to the first tops of Bílé Karpaty (White Carpathians). It has become famous primarily for the Strážnice Folklore Festival, the tradition of which extends over half a century. However, you can also find a unique complex of wine cellars Petrov-Plže, open-air-museum in Strážnice or a well-preserved part of the river Morava in the nature park Strážnické Pomoraví. Up-stream of Morava, there is Veselí nad Moravou, one of the centres of Veselsko and Ostrožsko. Veselí is renowned by many sights and also as an important point on Baťův kanál (Baťa's Channel). Near Blatnice pod sv. Antonínkem is known for Blatnický roháč - delicious wine from local vineyards - and also regular wakes. The characteristic Horňácko (Highland) region in Bílé Karpaty is rich in nature beauties, folk construction sights and folk traditions. We just recall Horňácko Feast, wind mill in Kuželov or Jazevčí Preserve. An autonomous area is formed by Bílé Karpaty. The mountain ridge continues further north to the Uherské Hradiště region and the Zlín region.
