Valtice, a former family residence of princes of Liechtenstein, is situated on the border with Austria, and until 1920 it was part of it. Valtice is one of the two centres of Lednice-Valtice Area, which was inscribed in the list of UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage in 1996.

The centre of the town is dominated by the gems of Baroque architecture - the chateau and the church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary; the Salettes Rajstna Colonnade and Diana’s Temple, also known as the Rendez-vous, stand out in the town surroundings.

In terms of the natural beauty, definitely worth seeing are the nearby Lednické rybníky ponds or the national natural monument Rendezvous, which is an example of the original Boří les forest vegetation. The best way of seeing everything is wandering along the marked trails for walkers and cyclists. Interesting is also the exhibition of the Valtice National Museum of Agriculture.

The most famous agricultural activity in Valtice is winery. There the oldest wine school in the Czech Republic is based, sommeliers are educated and in the chateau cellars you can find the Wine Salon, presenting a hundred of the best samples from throughout the country. Regular events held in Valtice include Valtice Wine Market, grape harvest festivals and Saint Martin’s new wine festival.

The Valtice “culture at the chateau” has gained many supporters from around the world. Just remember the International Summer School of Early Music.
